Moving Digits Workshop 18-19/Feb 2019 – Call for Participation for Dancers and Choreographers

Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava (STL) is hosting a workshop on visualization of movement in dance in Tallinn, 18-19/February 2019, as part of the EU Creative Europe cooperation project Moving Digits: Augmented Dance for Engaged Audience (https://movingdigits.eu). The project is a collaboration between institutions from Estonia, Germany, Portugal and UK. This will be a first workshop for the Moving Digits project, and the base for future activities in the project.

The workshop aims to investigate how technology can be used by dancers and choreographers as a tool for expression. Following an initial dialogue on the topic, dancers will explore the perception of their own bodies by co-creating and carrying out a set of movements. That will lead to a discussion on how dance could be enhanced by digital visuals. Although the project is technology-focused, this workshop will be mostly about embodied exploration, brainstorming and reflection, with little technology involved. Selected participating artists will be invited to collaborate in future steps of the Moving Digits project.

The Moving Digits project aims to enhance audience understanding and engagement in contemporary dance performances, and to allow to experience dance in an augmented way (even after the performance). The project also aims to empower dancers, choreographers and technicians with further tools for expression, archival and analysis.
